Worcamp Liminality, or There and Back Again (and the extraordinary experiences that happen in between)

Bachelor thesis "Workcamp Liminality, or There and Back Again (and the extraordinary experiences that happen in between)" deals with initiation in contemporary society. It elaborates on initiation of transition between childhood and adulthood, which is made possible through the secular rituals of transition. A research on one workcamp is used to analyse this type of initiation. Three-phase concept rites de passage of Arnold van Gennep, focusing on the middle, liminal, stage and its course as described by Victor Turner is used in the analysis. The aim of this paper is to outline some examples of travelling, which may take the form of rites de passage, and through research on one specific workcamp show that it is possible to encounter the liminal and initiating characteristics of travelling there. According to the theories of Victor Turner emergence of communitas is perhaps the clearest indication of liminal stage (or rite de passage and initiation). Turner's understanding of communitas is very important especially for the empirical part of the text. Methodological work is based on participant observation in the field and semi-structured interviews with workcamp participants conducted during the workcamp. International volunteering and its role in the professional, personal and social development

This diploma thesis investigates international volunteering in the context of professional, personal and social development of young volunteers. In the theoretical part, definition, history, forms and subjects involved are presented, together with the impacts and ethical questions related to the field. Next, the professional, personal and social development is defined and international volunteering is put in light as a source of important skills. The empirical part is concerned with one specific form of international volunteering - workcamps. Firstly, organisation INEX-SDA, which sends hundreds of youngsters to workcamps each year, is introduced. Next, methodology and results of an original qualitative research focused on the role of workcamps in workcamp-participants' lifes are discussed. The results suggest that workcamps have various impacts on and connectedness with the participants' development, the professional as well as the personal and social. By some, the workcamp's impact on their life and development is perceived as subtle, while others see significant effects, workcamps had on their life and skills. Workcamps as a new trend in volunteering in 2015

The topic of bachelor´s thesis are workcamps as a new trend in volunteering in the Czech Republic in 2015. The main goal of this thesis was to describe the area of the short time international volunteering and analyze their structure. First part of the thesis deals with explanation of some important terms related to volunteering and describe the area of the non-profit organization. In the second part, the documents analyzing is used as methodology for describing volunteers from Czech Republic. In the last part of thesis, the survey methodology, is used for special workcamp in 2015 and his benefits. In the practical part own empirical research is analyzed.
Short-term international voluntary projects in culture

This bachelor thesis is focused on the topic of the shor-term international voluntary projects and its position in the cultural field. The main goal of this thesis was to create a complex theoretical dokument, which would describe the area of the international volunteering, its juristical requirments, organizational structure and motivators. The practical part implants the projects of workcamps into the cultural field, creates a new categorization of projects and provides two particular case studies from the cultural field.
Voluntary service as a motivation for participation in tourism

The bachelor thesis desribes voluntourism in terms of its historical development in the world as well as in the Czech Republic and analyses its contribution, risks and potential. It focuses on the European Union's program Youth in Action, particularly on projects of the European voluntary service. The profile of a typical volunteer coming to the Czech Republic to do his European voluntary service was created following the results of the survey and also his motivation was closely examined. The relevant results are presented by graphs.
